Other On-Going Projects

There’s a lot happening at the Airport! This page highlights other ongoing projects that are shaping its future.

The Alexander Field South Wood County Airport has additional projects aimed at improving facilities, enhancing user experience, and preparing for the future. This page provides an overview of these ongoing initiatives, keeping you informed about the exciting developments happening at the Airport.

Runway 20 Obstruction Removals

The airport is undertaking a two-phase obstruction removal project to ensure safe and clear runway approaches while complying with FAA funding requirements. This initiative ensures compliance with FAA funding requirements while maintaining safe and efficient runway approaches. Clear runway approaches are essential for both traveler safety and the airport’s continued development, as the FAA regularly evaluates approach procedures.

The FAA provides funding for obstruction removal only once, making it crucial to optimize the clearing process to minimize future maintenance costs.

  • Phase 1: The Airport is currently finalizing plans to remove obstructions on recently acquired avigation easements over thirteen properties. The removals are planned to occur in Winter 2025/2026.

  • Phase 2: Acquire additional avigation easements in the Runway 20 approach. This process is expected to take 1–2 years.

This project enhances safety, secures federal funding, and positions the airport for future growth.
